Merve Hsiao (蕭晨熙)
Research Manager
I joined the lab in January 2025 following my work at Acıbadem University Hospital’s Neurology and Sleep Labs. I specialise in multimodal neuroimaging data collection while also managing the lab’s IRB and administrative operations. Fluent in English, Turkish, and Chinese, I enjoy bringing both technical expertise and multilingual communication to our global research environment.
Elizaveta Baranova
Post-Doctoral Fellow
I was born in Russia and have been living in Taiwan since 2019. I am currently in my 2nd year of postdoctoral researcher position. My work focuses on two main projects: investigating healthy brain aging and studying disorders of consciousness. Additionally, I am interested in computational neuroscience and deep learning models. In Taiwan I actively...
Elham Dabiri
Ph.D. student
Before joining the lab, I studied Cognitive Science and Electrical Engineering in Iran. I’m curious about how the brain works and enjoy exploring it through computational and theoretical models. I’m drawn to clinical studies of consciousness and am especially fascinated by how the brain develops and evolves over time.
Smriti Mavar
Ph.D. Student
Before coming to Taiwan, I completed a Bachelor’s degree at Amity Institute of Neuropsychology and Neurosciences, India. Since then I’ve worked on projects related to intrinsic brain activity, its relationship with different behavioural states and how it influences our cognition. Currently, I am investigating the process of mental imagery using neuroimaging and behavioural methods.
Thuy Trinh Ngo Thi
Ph.D. student
Hi! I’m Trinh. My background is in Neuroscience, and I’m especially interested in how brain activity interacts with bodily signals. I enjoy combining experimental data with computational analysis to study brain–body interaction, particularly in relation to mental health.
Alfred Gonzales
Master's student
I am from Kentucky, and now I am a first-year Masters student. During undergrad, I worked as a research assistant in the Aging and Neuropsychology Lab at the University of Louisville. Through this lab, I want to expand my knowledge on Alzheimer’s disease by examining alterations in brain metabolite dynamics.

I’m a second-year Master’s student, originally from New York City. Before coming to GIMBC I worked as an EMT and anesthesia technician. That’s what drew me to the Brain States lab to study disorders of consciousness. When I’m not at my desk, I love being out in nature!
